Patch Message for 4/23/2003

Hello all,

We're very pleased to announce the features of this month's game update!

First off, Cooper and Kitara's Veil have gotten some attention this month. Both are geared to level 130+ and should improve your range of hunting locations greatly. In both sectors you'll discover rare spawns and named spawns which appear with varying frequency, as well as new loot. In some cases you can affect their appearance based upon how quickly you defeat their lesser minions.

Tada-O, after months of Glenn Commission pressure, decided to mount an assault on their faulty gate in the hopes of closing it forever. Unfortunately, it just made the Ten-Gu really, really mad. They're spreading throughout Cooper and they're looking to fulfill their promise of sector domination. Researchers have made an effort to catalog the various new strains of Ten-Gu being spotted, but their missions have been largely unsuccessful, resulting in the death of many scientists.

Meanwhile, the Mordana have moved into Kitara's Veil in force for unknown reasons and are proving extremely challenging opponents as they are known to use formations effectively. In addition to being very intelligent, they have full access to Jenquai skills and use them to great advantage. Some reports claim the cause of the Mordana is simply the destruction of all life. Be very wary if you choose to face the Mordana!

In addition to the changes to Kitara's Veil and Cooper, most mob loot tables have been updated. That may not mean that new items drop from any one particular mob. Some may drop the same things they dropped before. Some of the new loot drops are very rare. Mobs that didn't drop any loot before should drop loot now, with the exception of the V'rix. The basic concept here is that overall you'll see a greater variety of items dropping but approximately the same number of drops.

Mobs have gotten a lot smarter too and you'll quickly discover that you may need to re-examine your tactics and adapt. And the ability to Jumpstart yourself is now implemented!

Weýve made real progress in squashing some of the bugs that you've told us annoy you the most. We're continuing to work on the ones we didnýt get this time around. Thank you again for your help identifying the most urgently needed fixes! Here's a brief list of some of the fixes (not all of them) we made at your request:
  • Sam Bogeril's Manifesto can now be produced.
  • Fixed a problem with occasional "lockups" of the buff interface.
When taking passenger charter jobs, the passengers will no longer question the pilot's flying ability before they're picked up.
  • V'rix scanning will no longer deplete shields with Increase Shield Capacity items installed.
Oni in Sirius will again be dropping their appropriate loot. The rarity of those items has not been changed.
  • Fixed sequencing of Bogeril spawns, which were preventing certain types of Bogeril from showing themselves unless the server had been reset. (Please let us know if you see more of the elusive Captains!)
Shield drains due to the Shield Sap and Shield Leech skills now count as normal damage for experience and looting rights.
  • Terran Tradesmen who were unable to get the Hull Patch skill at the appropriate level should try again.
  • Progen Sentinel who were unable to get the Build Shields skill at the appropriate level should try again
  • Environment Shield skill will now protect against environmental effects 100% as stated in the description.
  • Fixed a bug which prevented Environment Shield from protecting against energy drain leaks in some areas of the Valkyrie Twins.
  • Fixed a bug involving skill deactivation and gating. For example, deactivating Self Destruct prior to gating would have the reactivation timer set in the new sector as if the Self Destruct had gone off.
  • Fixed a problem with inaccessible items on space hulks and harvestables containing more than 8 items.
  • Fixed the problem that caused players to stop too far away from stargates while traveling at high warp speeds.
  • Plasma Retort ammo will no longer disappear when you exit the game.
  • Thorgil's Fury Ammo now available.
  • Fixed a bug that caused guild statistics to display incorrectly.

Please be sure to visit the Earth & Beyond website (www.enb.com) and check out our new "In the Works" section (Community -> In the Works). This new section of the website gives you a glimpse at what we're working on and gives you a place to provide your feedback, thoughts and suggestions. Currently, we've got some very interesting discussions going about Guild Amenities and Guild Management functionality. We'll be adding more discussions in the next week.

Did you know that every Friday a developer update is posted to the message board forums? (Community -> Forums -> Developer Updates). Please drop by and get the latest scoop!

Just in from Net-7

Red Dragons policing their own?
Red Dragon leaders have reportedly taken action against a group of their own pirates. The group in question was blatantly extorting money from both friend and foe, and often attacking their victims whether they were paid or not. Accounts of Red Dragon "justice" in the past are both colorful and unverifiable, but if the rumors are even partially true, it's probably safe to assume that the extortion group will be gone for quite a while.

Intelligence reports new Red Dragon supply depot
Several Terran intelligence agents are reporting that the Red Dragons have established a new supply depot in Blackbeardýs Wake. The new supply outlet, apparently located at Queen Anne's Revenge, is intended to compensate for continued disruption of supply shipments to the existing outlet at Kuei Station in Aragoth Prime. As news of the outlet was verified by multiple intelligence sources, it is believed to be reliable information.

Mordana appear in Kitaraýs Veil
An anonymous but reliable source has reported that the Mordana, a legendary Jenquai cult, have appeared in Kitara's Veil. Naturally, no official Jenquai spokesman would comment publicly on the report. Net-7 has received no reliable reports that would indicate why the Mordana have entered the sector, but the cult is believed to be very dangerous and untrustworthy. Pilots who travel to Kitara's Veil should exercise extreme caution. In addition to the Mordana expedition, large numbers of smugglers and warriors are apparently converging on the sector, possibly in the hopes of acquiring Mordana weapon technology. Net-7 has un able to verify whether the Mordana actually have advanced technology in the sector, but will continue to monitor this mysterious development.

Ten-Gu expanding incursion into Cooper
Net-7 reporters have confirmed that the Ten-Gu are expanding their foothold in the Cooper Sector, as traffic through the Tada-O gate has greatly increased recently. Several new types of Ten-Gu have been observed entering the sector, and researchers in the sector have sustained heavy casualties. Most observers agree that the Ten-Gu are obviously trying to take control of the sector. For months, the Glenn Commission pressured Tada-O to take action regarding its malfunctioning gate. Tada-O finally mounted an attack on the Ten-Gu in the hopes of sealing the gate, but the Tada-O fleet was apparently annihilated.

Earthcorps getting serious about Arduinne
An Earthcorps spokesman has issued a warning to all pilots regarding Arduinne Planet, explaining that Earthcorps has stepped up security measures on the planet. Loiterers on the planet will be dealt with much more harshly under new Earthcorps Rules of Engagement.

Scientists, collectors gear up for Bunyip season
Everyone from stuffy scientists to curious collectors is getting ready for Bunyip egg season, laying the groundwork for what may be the biggest Bunyip hunt ever. Bunyip-hunting supplies of all shapes and sizes are being sold in a dubious marketing frenzy, which is made all the more interesting by the fact that no one has ever actually seen a live Bunyip. There can be little doubt of the Bunyipsý existence, however, as they annually lay thousands of eggs throughout the galaxy. Pilots are reminded to be on the lookout for the highly-prized Bunyip eggs. Anyone who actually catches a glimpse of a Bunyip should notify authorities immediately so that it can be killed and studied.

Enjoy!

Here are the details:

  • Fixed a bug in the High Earth reactor leak mission that could strand non-destroy items in your hold.
  • Made some minor changes to the Terran level 30 hull upgrade mission to lead you to Roland Holmes more effectively.
  • Sgt. Jones will now remove the correct items when helping to recover enlistment bonuses for Terran Warriors unlucky enough to encounter extra red-tape.
  • Fixed bugs in Tersen Grosch's dialogue which caused him to ignore negotiations and also sell far too much hyperium.
Combat
  • Fixed a problem with V'rix Scan depleting shield with Increase Shield Capacity items installed. Also fixed other cases where energy or shield is lost when switching reactors/shields with such items installed. (Thanks to everyone that reported this one!)
  • Since the Red Dragon pirates persisted in attacking both friends and foe after extorting money, they've been removed.
  • Cherri Twist, the famed racing scaracen, has gotten over her initial nerves and is much more steady when flying the racecourse.
  • Oni in Sirius will again be dropping their appropriate loot. The rarity of those items has not been changed.
