A nice quiet trip

It began with a nice quiet trip to the "Grand Ol' Homestead" to sell some of my merchandise to the locals of the area. I had been busy building and selling for weeks it seemed. This was my last stop before some badly needed R&R at Shakti Pleasure Moon. I had finally made enough profits to afford my first ever vacation to Shakti. Hearing advertisements at every station in the Galaxy had convinced me this would be credits well spent.

After what seemed like hours of repeated failed attempts to access the uncompleted gate with the "key" device I had acquired from Lady deWinter, my personal advisor and mentor, and suffering major shield and hull damage, I got lucky and entered the sector. Being a Terran Trader by profession, I quickly repaired my hull damage, and regenerated my shielding. Setting course for the station into the autopilot, I engaged the engines and warped into docking range.

A bedraggled and badly damaged group of Warriors were sitting outside of the station, they had obviously been in a fierce battle due to the visible signs of smoke and flames coming from their ships. They requested in my "broadcast" radio channel for shield and hull repairs.
I set about the task of repairing their hull damage, and asked them "What happened to you guys? Looks like you got run over by a Cap. Ship." They responded with two words... "Scuttle Bugs!". Well, I couldn't help but laugh, as I had seen bugs before, in Shepard, small and very easy to kill for a seasoned pilot.

I asked them for more info, as this was my first trip to visit the Bogerils living in this sector, and wanted to get the low down on just how a group of powerful seasoned Warriors could have sustained such massive damage. They told me stories of their battle, how they had encountered the abnormally large Scuttle Bugs which had made fairly quick work of them.

One Warrior said, "We got 4 of them critters before they all but killed us." I replied, "Wow! I've never seen Scuttle Bugs that powerful. Why didn't you guys just dock at the station for repairs?" They informed me that they were not well liked by the Bogerils, and were denied docking privileges. I finished making my repairs to their ships, at which time they invited me along to help them in their search of loot. I accepted, and informed them of my need to dock and sell my cargo so as not to damage any of the valuable merchandise in battle.

After a brief and profitable stay in the station, I headed out to join the group. After installing my battle gear, and sharing my shield charging buffs to aid in our defense, we headed out in search of some rare and valuable loot.

A few minutes later we arrived at the location of their last battle with the fierce foe. I couldn't believe my eyes! The Scuttle Bugs were huge! One of the Warriors yelled over the radio "Incoming!", at which time we all began firing weapons. They weren't kidding! These things were fierce. One volley hit a Warrior and took his shielding down over halfway! So far the bugs were ignoring me completely. We took four of them out, and this is when the dung hit the fan for me! I hit the crippled Warrior with my shield regeneration and immediately got hit with weapons fire from the remaining bugs. My shields were gone! The next volley took almost half of my hull out! I tried engaging warp to escape death, but had been hit with an immobilization field. There'd be no escape today!

The Warriors fought bravely against terrible odds, but it was too late for me. Each and every attempt to regen my shields or patch my hull was interrupted with weapons fire. The bugs wanted me dead more than anything else! Then it was over, my ship floated helplessly in space, smoke and flames pouring from the holes punched into it by those bugs. My systems had all been damaged or destroyed in the battle! I sent out a call for help to jump-start my ships systems so I could cripple my way back to the station for repairs. My calls went unanswered. No surprise there, who would be crazy enough to risk death to come help me?

I called the station for a tow after informing the Warriors that my vacation time was closer than I thought. After being towed back and having my systems repaired, I set off for my vacation on Shakti. I was thankful there was enough left of my ship to make the trip.

As I warped to the gate, I thought, "I'll be back bugs, I'll be back."
