In a press conference today, Admiral WyteRabit of the 199th Tactical Fighter Wing, confirmed earlier reports that one of his pilots, Admiral Kaid, had been lost while exploring an uncharted system.

"He (Kaid) heard about some uncharted system and some planet called Calibo... Calypso... or something like that... from a Sharim trader in the lounge at Paren Station," said Rabit (as he is know to most colleagues) in an interview with the press. "Kaid was bored of running standard patrols and was looking to make a name for himself as an explorer of sorts. He was having dinner with several members of the 199th when he overheard someone talking about a newly discovered system. Of course, I hadn't heard anything officially, so I dismissed it as a rumor. But Kaid was intrigued."

According to statements from other witnesses, Kaid approached this unnamed pilot and began asking questions. Friends say that Kaid became obsessed with the subject and began to talk to dozens of traders and explorers. About a week later, he set out for Aragoth and then freewarped coreward from Trader's Fort after filling up with supplies. The 199th maintained contact with Kaid for about a week when suddenly, after receiving a garbled transmission, all contact was lost. According to communications experts at the 199th, Kaid's last message was "... I think I see the syst... wha..??? Wait... I seem ... lost power.... Trying to stabil... Going down... Mayday.. may..."

A search party was organized but no trace of Admiral Kaid or any debris from his ship were ever found.

To all those who knew him best, Admiral Kaid will be remembered as a "fly by the seat of his pants" pilot who loved to hunt and was a good man to have in a tight situation.

The 199th expresses their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Admiral Kaid. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
