By KailaeGlenn Sector, Beta Hydri - Attacks by Chavez Pirates continue to plague the Glenn system, with the SS Blue Haven falling under attack yesterday. The Blue Haven, a Glenn tour ship, was brutally attacked by pirates near the Sirius gate.
"They stopped our ship by saying that if we did not agree to do exactly what they said, they would destroy us, and kill everyone" said Mattias Sedbon, chief engineer. "We acceded to their demands to prevent the loss of life of our passengers. They then boarded us and stole everything of any value, including the gold plated faucets in the bathrooms. When the captain hesitated in handing over his prized antique timepiece, they shot him and took it from him."
Glenn commission sources said the entire attack was over in about 10 minutes, the pirates displaying a high degree of efficiency removing the valuables from the Blue Haven. Captain Mark Sandersen was rushed to the infirmary at Friendship 7, where he later died of his injuries. Inside assistance is suspected due to the fact that the pirates seemed to know exactly where the Blue Haven would be and what the layout of the ship was.
The attack on the Blue Haven was the latest in a series of disturbing assaults on mercantile and recreational shipping to have occurred in the Glenn sector in the last 2 months. Fourteen ships have been attacked, and several other ships have been threatened. Professor Boris Sakalov, Dean of Economics at New Edinburgh University, had this to say about the attacks, "The events in the Glenn Sector are very disturbing. Not only for the obvious reasons of loss of life, but Glenn is a major transportation hub, connecting the Sol Sector to the Sirius Sector. Any disruption there will have long lasting effects on the flow of trade. In addition, the attacks continue to reinforce the notion that the sector is not safe. Tourism in Beta Hydri is already down due to the effects of the war and interfactional disputes. Since the Glenn Commission in large part draws its revenues from tourism and shipping, this could potentially have a catastrophic long term effect."
Glenn Commission Spokesperson Anne Bancroft had this to say about the attacks, "We continue to search for the pirates staging areas, and have stepped up patrols in the Glenn Sector with the hope of disrupting their operations. Persons considering travel to Beta Hydri should know that our efforts have already considerably increased security in the system. Attacks have drastically reduced since these measures have gone into effect, with only 3 attacks in the last 2 weeks. We also continue to search actively for the Chavez leader known only as "Carlos" and hope to have him in custody shortly."
The Glenn Commission has offered a twenty million credit reward for information leading to the detention of the rumored head of the Chavez's operations in Glenn, aka "Carlos the Jaguar".
