V'rix War is a Misunderstanding

According to a Sha'ha'dem friend of mine, who wishes to remain nameless so not to be considered a V'rix sympathizer, the war with the V'rix is all just one big misunderstanding. "Misunderstandings happen like this when you get two cultures interacting with each other," She told me over a lunch meeting, "We've only recently understood their speech so it should be no surprise that it will take us longer to understand their culture."

Assigned to study the V'rix since they first appeared in our space, she has quite a background observing these strange newcomers to our galaxy. She pointed out several observations of the V'rix that seem to point to a highly structured society like that of an ant or bee colony. They fly in formations, single mindedly focused on the same goal, and seem to be getting their orders from someplace else, more then likely a queen. "You've got your warriors, scouts, workers, and more then likely a breeder or ruling class we just haven't seen yet," she elaborated. Now of course the theory of the breeder class or a queen V'rix is completely unfounded, but my friend seems positive that one exists. "They are just too structured like an insect colony not to have one," she argues, "besides they've got to be coming from somewhere and getting those orders from someplace."

Being that they are such a highly structured society, however, they no doubt see all of us as one too, or so says my friend. "They probably expect us all to be one large hive ourselves; made of Progens, Terrans and Jenquai. So when Kahn declared war on them, the V'rix saw it as the entire hive declaring war on them, not just the Progens," she stated.

The issues we are currently dealing with started as minor problems when we first met the V'rix. Things such as scanning was really annoying pilots all around. "What one has to realize here is the V'rix just didn't know better," she argued a little later in the conversation, "For V'rix, scans are a way of identifying and interacting with each other. I'm sure they were surprised when we didn't scan back!"

Another one of the many complaints she addressed was on the constant scans that occurred while a ship was incapacitated. "With a little research, I've managed to determine that the frequency our distress beacons transmit on are similar to the frequency of V'rix mating signals," she stated proudly, "They thought they where getting lucky! Only to have there hopes dashed by some human in a broken down can." She also noted other misunderstandings such as curious V'rix wandering to close to a battle field and getting got caught in crossfire, or causing system hiccups in pilots' ships with a badly timed scan.

"All of the conflicts with V'rix before the war could be described as purely cultural and not a hostile invasion as Kahn would lead you to believe," she summarized, "We just didn't understand each other and its too late now to start over. I've lost a few friends to combat with the V'rix and I'm not about to forgive them no matter if the war is a result of starting off on the wrong foot."
