Future troubles for Alpha Centauri?

Alpha Centauri, also known as Rigil Kentaurus, one of the current civilized systems, may be facing some troubles in the distant future.

As you probably know, Alpha Centauri has multiple stars, three to be exact, but the troubles concern the two larger stars.

The two larger stars, currently have about 24 astronomical units distance between them (24 times the distance from the Earth to the sun), however, they seem to be slowly moving apart from each other.

We are still unable to entirely explain how planets like Witberg and Zweihander can exsist in the system with a stable orbit, and if the stars do break away from each other, nobody knows what will happen.

Of course, this won't happen in our lifetime, no noticeable change in the distance will happen untill at least 500,000 years from now, if at all.
