Many skills will become available to players only as they reach certain levels. Many skills also have additional capabilities and effects as players increase in levels.
Passive and Active Skills
Most skills are passive, which means you don't have to do anything to activate them. For example, Beam Weapon is a passive skill, which is automatically taken into account anytime you use a beam weapon. However, Hacking is an active skill, which means you must manually click the Hack button in order to use it.
Active skills are marked with an asterisk (*). If a skill is not marked with an asterisk, then it is passive. Note that some skills have a power-up delay, and they can be interrupted if you take damage during the power-up sequence.
Skills that have new abilities at higher levels also have additional icons on your Skills list. These icons will be "greyed out" until you acquire those skills, but you can see their details by hovering your mouse over the icons. When these skills are attained, you can drag the icon onto your shortcut bar.
